Oncotype Sketchbook

PYR-019
2020

The Oncotype Sketchbook begins in optimism and bewilderment, navigating through the bliss of companionship to the discovery of an unknown force that could potentially disrupt that life permanently. From there it winds through different phases of emotions and discoveries, treatments and side effects, all bound by the field recordings I was collecting as we sat together in hospital rooms and treatment centers. The clicking of chemo drips and hospital machinery created patterns of sound that I constantly found myself lulled into a trance by, and I wanted to try and capture that feeling by incorporating them into the mix. I also wanted the album to reach a sort of blissed out climax during the second half, reflecting a stubborn belief that we would come out stronger on the other side of this experience, and also not to succumb to gloom, waist deep in our midst. Reflecting hope in the darkness.
